Regardless of whether you work in a business of 1 or 50 employee’s, there are always parts of the business which require your attention. From an IT perspective, there are always tasks which can be undertaken which don’t necessarily have a cost associated to them. I’ve compiled a small list of the types of items I believe every business should be looking at in order to improve productivity, increase your website traffic and to help your business overall.

Social Networking

While I’m not completely convinced that social networking is for every business. I do think that it can be extremely effective for some. I’ll give you an example of how it works for PCtechnix. Our monthly newsletter has a subscribed audience of about 500 business customers. When this mail is sent out, I link to it on Twitter. As a passive Tweeter, I have 300 followers. I also have another 169 connections on LinkedIn who also get receive the link to the newsletter. So instead of reaching an audience of 500, It now goes out to nearly a 1000 people on a monthly basis. Has that approach worked? In a word. Yes. I have sold products and services to new customers via social networking. Perhaps you need to give it a try as well?

Twitter – Have you Tweeted?

Facebook – More traffic than Google.

Blogging – Share your expertise.

LinkedIn – Online Business Networking.

Forums – Join industry-related forums.

– Engage your customers.- Pick one to begin with and use it properly.- Don’t do all at once. Feature Creep

E-Mail Marketing

As mentioned above, the monthly newsletter now goes out to nearly a thousand readers per month. I try to ensure the newsletter is informative and engaging. I try to abstain from just spouting special offers and marketing material. The best approach in my opinion is to create a blend of news, information and offers in a manner which doesn’t overwhelm the reader. There are free and paid ways of getting your newsletter out. See blog post on email marketing for more information here for more information.

  • How much of a captive audience could you have at your disposal today if you had collected email addresses from day 1?

  • Creates an awareness of new products and services. Special offers and newsworthy items.

  • “Didn’t know you did Web Design too?”

  • Leaves the channel open for customers you may not see from one end of the year to the next.
