Copilot training that happens inside the work.

Pick your role. Each module is a three-minute lesson, a realistic work scenario where you write the prompt yourself, and a five-question check. Pass all four modules to earn your IT.ie certificate of completion.

Independent training created by IT.ie. This is not official Microsoft training, and it is not endorsed by Microsoft. Practice exercises are simulated, with example responses written by IT.ie.

  • About 40 minutes per track
  • 7 role-based tracks
  • Free, no sign-up
  • Reviewed October 2026
As you type, the prompt coach checks your prompt against CRIT, sized to the task: a quick request needs far less than a board paper.

How every module works

  1. 1Learn

Three or four key ideas and the pitfalls to watch for, in plain English. About three minutes of reading.

  2. 2Practise

A realistic email, meeting, document or spreadsheet. Write your own prompt while the coach checks it against CRIT, then review, challenge and refine Copilot’s response, and compare with an expert prompt.

  3. 3Check

Five scenario questions with an explanation for every answer. Score four out of five to pass, and retake as often as you like.

Finish with a certificate you can keep

Pass all four knowledge checks and your certificate is created instantly, with your name, track, module scores and a record ID. Download it as a PDF or image, or add it to your LinkedIn profile. It is an IT.ie certificate of completion, not a Microsoft certification.

Why this training

AI literacy is a legal duty

Article 4 of the EU AI Act, which has applied since February 2025 and was amended in July 2026, requires organisations that use AI systems to take measures to support the AI literacy of their staff. No specific level is set, so practical, role-based training with a completion record is a straightforward way to show you have taken those measures.

This is general information, not legal advice.

Built for how Copilot works today

  • Copilot Chat versus a Microsoft Copilot licence (formerly Microsoft 365 Copilot), and what each can see
  • Sizing prompts with CRIT, from a one-line request to a full brief, plus the Copilot Refinement Loop
  • Agents such as Researcher and Analyst, and when to use them
  • Verifying output, protecting data and keeping people accountable

Questions

Is this official Microsoft training?

No. IT.ie Copilot Training is independent training created by IT.ie for Irish businesses. It is not produced, reviewed or endorsed by Microsoft, and the certificate is an IT.ie certificate of completion, not a Microsoft certification. The practice exercises are simulations with example responses written by IT.ie. For official material, Microsoft Learn offers free Copilot training.

Do I need a Microsoft Copilot licence to take it?

No. The practice exercises are simulated in your browser, so anyone can complete the training.

To use what you learn, Microsoft Copilot Chat is included with eligible Microsoft 365 business plans. Copilot drawing on your emails, meetings, chats and files, full Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, and agents such as Researcher and Analyst need a paid Microsoft Copilot licence (previously called Microsoft 365 Copilot).

Where is my progress saved?

Only in this browser, on this device. There is no account and nothing is sent to IT.ie. If you clear your browser data or switch device you will start again, so save your certificate as a PDF once you have earned it.

Can we use it to train our whole team?

Yes, anyone can use it for free. If you need tracked completion records, training on your own policies and systems, or help with a wider Copilot rollout, talk to IT.ie.

How up to date is it?

The content was reviewed in October 2026. Copilot changes every month, so the training focuses on skills that last, and it points out where features depend on your licence or your administrator’s settings.

Why does the training use CRIT, and do I need all four parts every time?

CRIT (Context, Role, Interview, Task), developed by Geoff Woods, is the prompting model IT.ie recommends in our Copilot Guide, alongside the Copilot Refinement Loop. You do not need all four every time: a quick request needs a clear task and the source, everyday work also needs context, and high-stakes or unclear work benefits from a role and the Interview step. Microsoft’s own guidance uses Goal, Context, Source and Expectations, which covers the same ground as everyday CRIT.

Does completing it make us compliant with the EU AI Act?

Not on its own. Article 4, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, requires organisations to take measures to support the AI literacy of staff who use AI. Training like this can form part of those measures, alongside clear internal guidance and policies. It is not legal advice.

Rolling Copilot out across your team?
