Ireland’s Most Popular Google Searches of 2020

As 2020 draws to a close in a year that most would rather forget but will likely remember for a very long time, we look back on the most popular Google searches in Ireland for 2020. The main themes of this year’s searches are not surprisingly, Coronavirus and the US elections, however, I was surprised to find that that the US elections recorded more searches that coronavirus and that the Irish General Elections didn’t even make it into the top 10. With barbers and salons closed for long periods throughout the year, the home haircut became the norm and so “how to cut men’s hair” made the top 5 while “how to cut your own hair” was a little further down the list in 7th place. Here are the top Google search queries in Ireland for 2020.

So, what do the search queries for 2020 tell us? Coronavirus and the US Elections were the most searched terms in Ireland and probably in most of the world for 2020. Our own General Election didn’t even make the top 10 however “How to register to vote” was popular in the “How to” queries. We all wanted to know how we could make our own face masks and cut our own hair and worryingly many of us wanted to know how to make homemade sanitiser. I am just thankful that given the panic buying for toilet roll in early spring, that “How to make your own toilet roll” didn’t make the list. It may not have been the year we hoped for and for many it has been a year of terrible hardship and tragic loss but as we head towards the Christmas holidays the team at IT.ie would like to wish all our clients and friends a Very Merry Christmas and wish you happiness and good fortune in 2021.
